Top 5 Failed Netflix Ideas

Goodbye, Qwikster! Netflix announced today that they were ending their plans to split their DVD by mail option as a separate service called Qwikster. On their blog, CEO Reed Hastings wrote,

"It is clear that for many of our members two websites would make things more difficult, so we are going to keep Netflix as one place to go for streaming and DVDs. This means no change: one website, one account, one password… in other words, no Qwikster."

It took this popular DVD rental company almost a month to realize that maybe creating two separate services for customers who like to use both might be a bad idea? From shutting down their Community feature to the price increases and plans to take away the profile features (though they dropped that idea), it seems like Netflix is good at coming up with bad ideas.

So what's in store for Netflix in the coming years? We compiled our best "bad ideas" for the company to try next:

One Woman Water Park Rave

Posted October 10, 2011 - By Joseph Baxter

I suppose swimming in a giant container of other peoples' pee is about as good a place as any to get wasted and show everyone what you've got.

Work that imaginary buoyancy, baby!

"And why does everyone say 'I just owned you'? I thought you Americans stopped that slavery thing after the Korean War or something. It's illegal to actually own another human being, yet you Americans say that you own other people all the time. I do not understand this."

Apple Founder Steve Jobs Dies

Apple Founder Steve Jobs Dies

According to the Associated Press, Apple Co-Founder and technological giant Steve Jobs has died. He was 56. According to a statement issued by his relatives, "Steve died peacefully today surrounded by his family."

Jobs, who founded Apple Computing with Steve Wozniak, Mike Markkula, and others in the late 1970s, is responsible directly and indirectly for the iPhone, the iPad, The Apple Macintosh line of computers and a number of other innovations that have revolutionized the way we work, play, and interact. Jobs had been battling a rare and painful form of pancreatic cancer since 2004, and resigned from his position as head of Apple on August 24 of this year, writing that he could "no longer meet his duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO." Since then, Jobs had served as the chairman of Apple's board of directors.

I'm Tired of Star Wars

Posted September 28, 2011 - By Mike D'Alonzo

I'm Tired of Star Wars

I'm tired of Star Wars. There, I've said it. It's hard for me to admit, but I just couldn't hold back any longer. Now, you might think to yourself, "Oh, he probably wasn't a fan anyway." You could not be more wrong.

I was six years old when A New Hope came out, and I saw the movie in the theater many, many times. I waited in line for The Empire Strikes Back when I was 11, and then overnight for Return of the Jedi when I was 13. I celebrated the return of the movies with The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and dutifully saw Revenge of the Sith at midnight on opening weekend. I played the LEGO: Star Wars series, owned Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, laughed along with the rest of the world at the Admiral Ackbar "It's A Trap" meme, own the Christmas Special somewhere on an ancient VHS tape, saw the re-releases in the theater, and even have a Darth Vader mask on my desk here at work.

But now, I've had enough. I just can't do it anymore.

Tucker And Dale Vs. Evil Now Available On VOD

If you're anything like me, then you're currently crying your eyes out that you aren't at PAX Prime right now. Sure, other people are there, having a great time, rolling D20s, checking out new video games, and picking up some sweet swag while the rest of the world deals with things like work and dental visits. Or both. No, I'm not bitter at all. Why? Because I have Tucker and Dale to fight evil in front of me to keep me entertained via Magnolia's Video On Demand on a PS3 or Xbox 360 or nearly every other device you might own. (That's right, I'll be creeping into your house to watch this)

TUCKER AND DALE VS. EVIL made an impression on me at Sundance two years ago (Two years! Why do these things take so long?), and now it can make an impression on you as well. The logline is: Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine star as two lovable rednecks who get caught up in the middle of slasher extravaganza as they try and protect themselves and the lovely Katrina Bowden from her well-meaning friends in this horror comedy about extreme misunderstanding.

The Jetsons Get Sucked Into Space

How did this kind of thing not happen all the time on The Jetsons? Are people better drivers in the latter half of 21st century?

Wait, What Kind Of Milk?

Posted July 28, 2011 - By Joseph Baxter

Wait, What Kind Of Milk?

One theory, is that this is Land O' Lakes Buttermilk. The other, is that people with a past in messy German fetish videos have found their way into the American Dairy Industry.

The Avengers S.H.I.E.L.D. Spinoff TV Series?

Clark Gregg, who plays Agent Coulson, the perpetual recruiter of superhero talent in Marvel's movie universe may have dished on a possible spinoff TV series focusing on the secret supervillain-fighting agency, S.H.I.E.L.D.

In an interview with MTV, Gregg discussed the impact of his character's presence, which has been felt in every Avengers-related Marvel film since 2008's Iron Man. The dry, uptight demeanor of Agent Coulson has already made the character a fan-favorite, in spite of not originally coming from the pages of a Marvel comic.

Could Gregg's Agent Coulson soon find himself the star of a new television series?
