Honest Trailers: The Hunger Games

Baxter
Posted August 21, 2012 - By Joseph Baxter

With 3.8 million units sold in the first week of its DVD/Blu-ray release and shattered digital records, The Hunger Games has certainly cemented itself as heir-apparent to Harry Potter when it comes to book-to-film franchises where children participate in battles for some reason with global implications. (As opposed to real life when they battle over implications related to Facebook statuses.)

However, the folks at ScreenJunkies rightly identify some of derivative inconsistencies in this futuristic dystopia where people live as if they were involuntary Amish when technology has clearly advanced beyond the need.

Yet, despite all of that, one constant will remain: Physically-attractive protagonists who happen to be relatable to a lucrative demographic with deep disposable incomes.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Finds A Director?

Marvel's upcoming feature, The Guardians of the Galaxy may have found a director for its 2014 film featuring the cosmic super-team.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, James Gunn, writer/director of the 2006 meta-infused, tongue-in-cheek horror flick, Slither is in talks to helm this most curious of comic book films. Of course, Slither starred geek deity, Nathan Fillion, a well-known player in the universe of The Avengers director, Joss Whedon.

Also responsible for an array of quirky campish work under Lloyd Kaufman's Troma banner, as well as satirical superhero film, Super, Gunn could be taking the big plunge into what might be, on paper, one of the most ambitious (and riskiest) comic book films ever.

While the report claims that Marvel is in "exclusive talks" with Gunn, Marvel has yet to confirm Gunn's status as director. Additionally, the names of directors, Peyton Reed, Ryan Fleck, and Anna Boden are reportedly still in the mix.

Is James Gunn the right man for the job?

The Avengers 2 Release Date Officially Confirmed

It's official: The Avengers 2 has a date you can mark on your calendars. Now, fans can be damned well sure that Marvel's movie mega-team will avenge the box-office on May 1, 2015.

With the news confirming last week's rumor, the sequel will enjoy a three-year gap from the first film, during which, the landscape of Marvel movies will have changed drastically with Iron Man 3 (May 3, 2013), Thor: The Dark World (November 8, 2013), and Captain America: The Winter Soldier (April 4, 2014) -- Not to mention The Guardians of the Galaxy sometime in 2014 and the film debut of signature Avengers member, Ant-Man.

With director, Joss Whedon locked-in, you can bet that this sequel to the nearly $1.5 billion-grossing powerhouse is going to redefine the already redefined expectations for comic book films.

It looks like 2015 is the year the team defends the Earth and the cosmos against a power-hungry Mad Titan named Thanos, who, like Michael Jackson, appreciates wearing a single sparkly glove.

Hogwarts Pool Party

"Hi, I'm Harry Potter, and welcome to Jackass!"

Not too long after the glory days of his time at Hogwarts was over, there was a period when Harry spent his days just beefing-up in the gym, getting wasted, and hanging out by the pool.

Thankfully, Ginny came along and straightened him out.

Daredevil Film Rights Return To Marvel

It seems that Marvel's "Man Without Fear" will soon be brought into the fold of Marvel's movie stable as Sony's long-in-the-making plans to reboot the Daredevil film franchise just slipped through their fingers.

With the project apparently not on track enough to make the Oct. 10 deadline to begin production, it does appear that the film rights to Hell's Kitchen's blind costumed criminal-crusher could very well send him into the same movieverse as The Avengers, just as it was in 2006 when Thor reverted back to Marvel from Sony.

Considering that the proposed reboot seemed on track, how did it all fall apart for the Sony film?

"I don't know how that magic water stick of yours works and frankly, I don't care.

I just know that it shoots some damn fine H20, so as far as I'm concerned, it's okay in book."

The Avengers 2 Could Have A Release Date

The sequel to Marvel's $1.5 billion-grossing powerhouse mega-franchise, The Avengers might just have a date set.

According to insiders speaking to MTV News, May 1, 2015 could be the magic date that the team once again assembles to combat...whatever gigantic threat, possibly of cosmic proportions that could be in store for Earth in the Marvel movieverse.

While director, Joss Whedon is set to return, the dance cards for each member of the team are pretty much set with Iron Man 3 (May 3, 2013), Thor: The Dark World (November 8, 2013), and Captain America: The Winter Soldier (April 4, 2014), each of which will likely have cameos from other members like Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury, Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye, and Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow. A three-year-window from this past May's first film would be reasonable and realistic considering all of that.

Marvel apparently has it all worked out, but how?
