E3 is still sizzling and the news just keeps on getting better. In an interview with MTV Multiplayer, Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business head Don Mattrick confirmed that Bungie is working on a new Halo title. Mattrick was not apparently concerned that Microsoft did not bring any Halo content to E3 as their conference on Monday was already loaded with enough content (no such thing) to get us all excited.

In our opinion, there has never been a great Spider-Man game. There have been some good one (and some lousy ones) but never a great one. Perhaps all that will change when Activision's Spider-Man Web of Shadows comes out.

According to Activision, Web of Shadows is combat heavy, with ground and air based fighting as well as web-slinging. The game is not based on a specific film or other work, so the game's developers had free reign to create a Spidey story that's videogame-centric. Speaking of story, Web of Shadow's plot details an invasion of Manhattan by symbiote, who infect people, ruin landscapes and generally ooze black all over the city.

Another cool feature: Suit-switching! The game allows for a switch from classic red spidey-suit to the new, sleek black. With great suits comes great powers: Each outfit changes Spiderman's strengths and weaknesses.

Web of Shadows will also feature several other Marvel characters, both heroes and villains, although who made the cut hasn't been announced. It comes out across platforms this fall.

At their press event last night, videogame-makers Activision announced Quantum of Solace, a videogame version of the upcoming James Bond movie of the same name.

With a release times to conicide with the release of the film, Quantum features a hybrid 1st person and 3rd person camera system--first-person for shooting, third-person for hand-to-hand combat. The game uses the Call of Duty 4 engine, and is planned for release across platforms on November 6th.

Activision announced Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2: Fusion yesterday during their "unofficially E3" conference. Like its predecessor that was released in 2006, dozens of Marvel characters will unite once again to thwart off evil this time in the region of Latvia. Familiar super heroes will return such as Wolverine, Captain America and Storm which was shown in the trailer.

This sequel features a new "fusion" technique that allows your two of your favorite Marvel icons to combine powers. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2: Fusion is due out March 2009 across all platforms. We'll give you more details on this action/rpg follow-up as soon as we get them.

Check out the rest of the details on Activision's press event here.

At their press event last night, Activision dropped a lot of exciting info on the next Call of Duty game. Call of Duty: World at War is shooter set in World War II being developed by Treyarch. Here's what was revealed last night:

  * 24 Actor Kiefer Sutherland will star in the game.

  * While we knew part of the game would be set in the Pacific Islands, we didn't know the Russians would play a part as well. Players will be members of the Red Army for part of the game and fend off Hitler's terrible panzer-blitz and capturing Berlin.

   * World at War will feature cooperative play with four players online, or two players on a single screen. Co-op will keep track of individuals kills so you can compete while you co-operate, like Halo 3.

Call of Duty: World at War comes out across platforms this fall.

At their press conference last night, Activision dropped a lot of info on upcoming music game Guitar Hero World Tour. Please enjoy the news, in hand, bullet-pointed form:

  • Rock Band's instruments peripherals will work with Guitar Hero World Tour--at least on the Xbox 360. That means 360-owners won't be stuck with two sets of fake drums and a million plastic guitars in their house.
  • A robust slate of downloadable content is planned for Guitar Hero World Tour, including full album downloads.
  • The games music studio allows users to collaborate on tracks, and then share them as DLC with any Guitar Hero player who wants to check them out.
  • World Tour's drum set features an extra pad over Rock Band, and also allows you to plug a midi-enabled drum-set in to the game so you can beat your own skins.
  • Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker and Paramore lead singer Hayley Williams announced as in-game characters.

In short: The console war between PS3, 360 and Wii is officially replaced with the platform war between Rock Band and Guitar Hero! Feel free to discuss which music game pwns and with suxxor in our comment section!

Activision Press Conference Report

Posted July 15, 2008 - By bleahy

Activision, having left the ESA, decided to hold a completely non-E3 related press conference a mile away from the Los Angeles Convention Center. Remember, this has nothing to do with E3… nice try, Activision. It’s an E3 press conference.

It was held at an old church in downtown LA that has been converted into an open-bar sporting, catered affair. If there’s one thing gaming journalists like it’s sushi and free booze, especially after a 12-hour day at E3.

What’s in store for us? As we heard from Activision’s representatives at Microsoft’s press conference, they are very excited about Guitar Hero: World Tour. At Sony’s press conference, they talked up Call of Duty: World at War. Will we hear anything about the recently approved merger with Vivendi & Blizzard to create Activision Blizzard?

Will Blizzard use this event to announce or talk about anything or are they content to stay quiet until Blizzcon 2008 in October?

Hit the jump for everything Activision.

Rock Band 2 Demo & Performance

Posted July 15, 2008 - By juster

Harmonix VP Greg Lopiccolo stopped by our E3 2008 stage to give Adam and Morgan an exclusive hands-on demo of 'Rock Band 2.'  If you've been living under a rock and/ or are still living under a rock (presumably one with a high-speed internet connection), Rock Band is a multiplayer music and rockstar simulation extravanza. No game before or after has gone better with excessive drinking, and its arguably the best and most inclusive party game ever made.

Stick around after the demo for a performance by Kevin, Morgan, Adam and Olivia.

Floor Report: This is Vegas

Posted July 15, 2008 - By juster

Chris Hardwick took to the E3 2008 show floor to bring you this hard hitting, near-in-depth report on Midway's 'This is Vegas', due for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in 2009.  Midway has cramed all of the confused, drunken has-anybody-seen-my-pants madness into a next-gen videogame. God bless America.

At one point Chris says "...Vegas to me just smells like poop and sadness." If that doesn't make you want to check out the video, we can't help you anymore.
