Superman Motion Picture Anthology Blu-ray Review: More Than A Bird or a Plane

Film nerds and appreciators of movies on Blu-ray have had a lot to be thankful for recently. Last year unleashed a landslide of geek films onto the format, ranging from the newly remastered Alien Anthology to Back to the Future to The Goonies. With Blu-ray sales set to pass DVD sales in 2012, it's only getting better. The Hobbit casting announcements just seem to keeps coming! Former Lost star, Evangeline Lilly has been cast in two-part epic for what will actually be a new character. Additionally, famed veteran impressionist, Barry Humphries (better known to the world as iconic drag character, "Dame Edna,") will also be featured in the film.

With the announcement coming straight from director Peter Jackson, the latest news is actually a bit of a surprise. With these two acquisitions, Jackson also confirms that (finally,) it "just about rounds out the main casting."

The Wolverine Gets James Mangold As Director

The Wolverine has finally found its director. James Mangold (Knight and Day, 3:10 to Yuma, Walk the Line) is reportedly on the verge of helming the franchise follow-up after the abrupt departure of Darren Aronofsky earlier this year. With the momentum that the film seemed to have going into 2011 dissolved, months of hiatus would lead to Mangold's name emerging last month on a short-list of candidates for the job.

With this news, it appears that The Wolverine can proceed as planned for shooting possibly in the Fall. Star, Hugh Jackman, who is supposedly set to put on more weight for the role than ever to pull-off a more comic book-accurate look, should now likely continue that task.

Will it have any affect on the film?

This is truly the golden age of comic book movies and that's due in no small part to the efforts of Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr., the brilliant minds who gave Iron Man life on the big screen and set the bar for what a comic book film should be. This, of course, means they're the most qualified to talk reflectively about the Iron Man films and discuss the upcoming Avengers movie, which they did at The Los Angeles Times' Hero Complex Film Festival this past week. Those of you who couldn't be in attendance should really check it out!

Star Wars TV Series: Details Revealed, But Long Delay Ahead

Star Wars producer, Rick McCallum dished a little bit about the iconic franchise's long-planned live-action TV series. It appears that the show will indeed be hugely ambitious. However, that ambition will apparently put the show back into developmental purgatory while its grand details are fleshed-out.

When/if the series gets off the ground, Lucasfilm will be looking to shoot most of the show in the Czech Republic. Having just shot a film in Prague called Red Tails, which is a George Lucas-penned project about World War II's brave and socially-groundbreaking Tuskegee Airmen, it seems that Lucasfilm wish to remain there in the long-term for the Star Wars series.
