iPhone App Rundown

TylerColfax
Posted August 16, 2008 - By TylerColfax

They say you can tell a lot about a man by his apps.

Apple has opened up a wonderful can of worms by welcoming the development of anyone with time, skill, and innovation enough to program new applications for their iPhone and iPod touch. And just as they did with iTunes, they're acting as a gatekeeper between the producer and the user, and taking their share of every transaction (30%) while watching their hardware sales skyrocket.

It's an ingenious way to sell hardware: Make software, or in this case supervise the transfer of open development to the consumer, and everyone and their brother will want the manufactured device that it runs on.

The best part of this whole personal computing revolution is the idea of customization. Every user is different, and Apple has made it possible for everyone to enjoy their iPhone in their own way. Check out the list below and see where you fit in.

G4's latest Duty-Free TV show, The Peter Serafinowicz Show, is amongst the funniest British sketch comedy shows we've ever seen, and that includes Monty Python and Benny Hill. The show’s creator and star, Peter Serafinowicz, is the funniest guy we know, and we know Gallagher.

Serafinowicz, a veteran of British comedy, has appeared on Spaced with Simon Pegg, the amazing Look Around You as well as countless other programs. We're honored to have Serafinowicz as a guest correspondent on our website. Enjoy, and don’t forget to watch The Peter Serafinowicz Show on Duty Free TV on G4 Fridays at 8:30PM ET. Take it away, Peter!

----------------------------------------------

Hello my new American friends and welcome to my guest blog. How do you like it so far? Is this font ok? Anyway. To begin! - here's a clip from this Friday's show - the first part of "Darth Vader In Love". The sketch is about - guess! - Darth Vader falling in love. But the inspiration for it was more about... what would the Death Star be like on a relatively normal, boring day? Like, with no impending crisis or space battle or whatever?

Check it out:

The Peter Serafinowicz Show: Darth Vader in Love »

I'm going to check in and post every day or two and I'd LOVE to answer any questions you may have for me about the show. Or indeed anything. Leave your thoughts and questions in the comments section... Come on!

Okay, I’m really starting to hate rapper Soulja Boy. First he insulted the great Ice-T for being to old for hip hop (hey kid, I’m no doctor but you ain’t getting any younger either…the time will come…) and now he and his goofy friends posted a video bragging about how he gets paid 15 cents every time someone comments on his youtube page, and 2 cents every time someone watches his videos. In other words, as he explains between girlish fits of giggling, he wants you to hate him and rag on him on youtube, because he gets paid every time you do. It doesn’t matter to him whether you love him or his music, or think he’s a joke, as long as you keep checking him out.

Now, first, this raises the question, who in their right mind is paying this kid for his youtube hits and comments?!?!?

And second, knowing this, will any of you continue to watch his clips and rants about them? Please don’t. I know I just did to write this story, but never again. I just can’t stomach the idea that the kid is making money off being crappy and pissing us off, and then rubs it in our face and laughs.

Ice-T, I’ve have never asked this of you before, but will you please do us all a favor and smack this fool down?

Well, ya can’t say actress Scarlett Johansson doesn’t go all the way to promote her movies. For instance, to promote her latest Woody Allen film, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, scarlettjohansson.com is offering up a very unusual contest prize: a red-hot threesome!

Yes, the promotion asks users to enter a “Win a Threesome” with Scarlett contest where you email in a letter explaining why you’d wanna be included in such a treat. This ties in with the fact that Vicky Cristina Barcelona is about a love triangle between Johansson, Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem that culminates in a much talked about kiss between the two ladies.

Classy!

The only hitch is the tiny text at the bottom of the ad that reads: "Threesome refers to moviegoing date experience with 3 people." DAMN!!!!

Well, pretending that you don’t know that, why don’t you write your threesome pitch letter here as a test run? And in the meantime, click below to watch the Vicky Cristina Barcelona trailer and watch Scarlett and Penelope Cruz kiss!
