There are very few comic book characters that come with a heavy dose of jingoism and bombast pre-installed for your enjoyment. Superman has been pictured in front of the stars and stripes so many times that we can give him an honorary Uncle Sam Jr. badge, and Iron Man has become a representation of the United States in many ways, buffered by his filmic message of peace through superior firepower. But it's Captain America who stands alone at the head of the line as a character from the funny pages meant to embody not just a hero, but the hopes and dreams of an entire nation as well.

The Hobbit has revealed the last and most important of Bilbo Baggins' thirteen dwarven companions: Thorin Oakenshield takes the spotlight in the final dwarf-unveiling portrait, as an exclusive to TheOneRing.

Played by Richard Armitage, Thorin is the King in exile from the royal line of Durin who rules over the group of dwarves that were driven out of their homeland in the Lonely Mountains by the Dragon, Smaug. Now, with the help of Wizard, Gandalf the Grey (Ian McKellen), he will be joined by Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) on a journey to retake those lands from the flying, fire-breathing treasure hoarder.

Anyone familiar with the book will know that Bilbo's friendship with Thorin becomes a critical foundation for much of the story's emotional drama. Look for that to be magnified in the two films.

Harry Potter, it's about time to say goodbye, isn't it? After ten years and eight movies, the boy wizard has had plenty of time to grow up and settle down into a quiet life that doesn't involve a crisis of magical proportions each school year. Thank god there isn't a Hogwart's College, or these may have continued for several more years. Even longer if there's a Post-Graduate Gryffindor program. 

But, all things must come to an end eventually, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 opens in theaters everywhere this weekend, bringing a close to J.K. Rowling's wizarding saga. Whether or not that's the end isn't sure, and she recently launched the website Pottermore to keep the magic alive, but it looks likely that it will be the end of the saga of Harry going from elementary school through high school, while facing death at every turn. But has it all been worth it?

Utilizing the embeddable comic book reader from Graphicly, Butler, host of the multiple Telly Award winning and Webby Honoree webseries Fresh Ink Online, will pick one comic book each week that will be made available at our site. Butler will be able to share the comics she reviews and discusses on Attack of the Show!'s Fresh Ink and G4tv.com's Fresh Ink Online with G4 viewers (hey, that's you!) and allow fans to discover great new stories and incredible comic book talent.

 

John Carter, the upcoming big-budget adaptation of one of the oldest, most venerable characters in science fiction history has unveiled its first trailer.

Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights, X-Men Origins: Wolverine) steps up to the top-billing plate for the first time as the film's titular character. Having first appeared in Edgar Rice Burroughs' 1917 novel, A Princess of Mars, the character has seen countless adaptations in comic books, television, and film over the last century and will now get a long overdue, (proper) update in a spectacular blaze of swords, spaceships, and lasers.

Hide yo housekeepers! After spending a hiatus in politics and infidelity, the ex-Governator will be making his return to the big screen.

Upcoming and long-in-the-making western, Last Stand, the English-language directorial debut of Kim-ji-Woon, will have Arnold Schwarzenegger as its star. For the aging Austrian muscle-man, the role may be a perfect fit as he will portray a grizzled lawman working with an inexperienced team, who finds himself forced to protect a border town from an impending threat.

While it may not exactly be an original plot in the Western genre, there is apparently a lot of buzz about the script by Andrew Knauer.

New Line and Warner Bros. has released a brand new photo revealing three of the dwarf companions from the two-film epic of The Hobbit. (2012's An Unexpected Journey and 2013's There and Back Again.)

From left to right, we get our first glimpse of Jed Brophy, Adam Brown, and Mark Hadlow as dwarf brothers, Nori, Ori, and Dori. In a sense, it's the first legitimate reveal of the dwarf companions, even though we've seen some of the group from far away in the first bunch of released pics of Martin Freeman's Bilbo Baggins in Bag End.
