Nerdcore TV Commercial: Del The Funky Homosapien »

Over the last few months G4 has been rolling out a series of Nerdcore Hip Hop TV promos.

What the hell is Nerdcore Hip Hop, you might ask? Well, it’s rap music by MCs into videogames, technology, computers, gadgets and other nerdy stuff. You’ve seen the TV spots by MC Frontalot, YTCracker and MC Lars, but now it’s time to check out the king of the scene, the man who helped invent the genre, the one and only Del the Funky Homosapien!

You know this Oakland MC from his work in Gorillaz, his many awesome solo albums (Deltron 3030, anyone?), from his dope edition of G4tv’s multi-platform hip hop series Freestyle 101, and from appearances with everyone from Handsome Boy Modeling School to The Coup to Ice Cube. But you’ve never seen him quite like this: dancing around computer monitors, in front of TV screens and popping in and out of videogames! It’s beyond dope…

'Total Request Live' Gets the Axe

TylerColfax
Posted September 16, 2008 - By TylerColfax

Total Request Live is going bye-bye. The 10-year running MTV mainstay that anchored the channel's after school block of shows and beamed live from their Times Square studio is calling it quits. They're oping to set up a big farewell show on a Saturday in November

"We want to close this era of `TRL' in a big celebratory way, and 10 is a great number," said Executive Producer Dave Sirulnick. "And 10 is the number that `TRL' counted down every single day for 10 years, and we hit this 10th (anniversary) and we thought, `You know what? This feels like the right time and let's celebrate it and let's reward it. And let's let it have a little bit of a rest for a minute.' Let it catch its breath! Been working hard — for 10 years!"

Freestyle 101 New Artist Month: Fashawn »

Next up on Freestyle 101’s New Artist Month is Fresno, Calif.-native Fashawn. Brought to our attention by Fresno rap scene kingpin Planet Asia and manager Walt Liquor, 19-year-old Fashawn is a monster on the mic.

Citing Rakim, Nas, Snoop Dogg, 2Pac, and Hieroglyphics as influences, Fashawn blends a penchant for streetwise turf talk with a backpacker mentality and fuses it together with a feel for catchy hooks. This kid has it all: Lyrics, style, attitude, charisma, cadence, and he can freestyle like a mofo. All of which is evident on his latest mixtapes, The Phenom 2 and One Shot One Kill, and during his Freestyle 101, shot at The Engine Room in Hollywood over a dope Messiaz beat. But all of this is merely a warm up for Fashawn’s upcoming debut album, Boy Meets World, which he is working on with Evidence of Dilated Peoples, Mick Boogie, Asia himself and others.

Freestyle 101 goes up at 9 a.m. PST (that’s noon over on the east) every Tuesday. Next week we continue New Artist Month with Ikka-Bod of M.O.P.’s Hevi Medal and Damani of Dub Union. Then we got Heltah Skeltah, Teflon, Kool Keith, and a special Halloween double feature that will rock your world. Make sure to dig our behind the scenes photos, visit us on MySpace and rant in our Forums. And if you dig Fashawn, then check out fellow Fresno native Planet Asia, other New Artists Months rap acts Custom Made and Kash Addictz, and other up and coming artists like Neila, Pack FM, Sav Killz, Bully, and more.

Freestyle 101 New Artist Month: Kash Addictz »

NEW ARTIST MONTH

Next up on New Artist Month here on Freestyle 101 is Kash Addictz, a dynamic rap duo straight outta Orange, New Jersey.

Kash Addictz were brought to our attention by two heavy weights in the rap game, M.O.P. manager Laze E. Laze and Houston’s greatest rapper, Scarface. When Freestyle 101 flew to New York earlier this year to shoot a marathon 24 episodes in four days we hooked up with the Mash Out Posse crew and Laze introduced us to a new group he was mentoring. And when Laze E. Laze tells you someone is hot, you know they are worth checking out. He was right. Arsonal Tha Rebel and Mikey Moolah can rhyme like nobody’s business. You can hear it on their indie album, Cake Up or Kash Out, and you can hear it on their single with Scarface, “We Connected.” And when your co-signed by two of hip hop greatest artists, you know you must be doing something right.

Lars... Um... Thanks Fans Via YouTube

TylerColfax
Posted September 8, 2008 - By TylerColfax

This is great. You see, once upon a time there was this band that really kicked serious ass and didn't give a damn about anything. Then they got rich. Then the internet happened and Napster was created. Then this band, let's call them Metallica, was so angry at the internet that they wanted to sue people and Napster for not paying them for sharing their music.

Well, those days are behind us, Internet. Lars, who was particularly vocal about the copyright infringement of the late 90s, has made his peace and is now embracing the business models that access and openness on the web can bring a superstar band. It's just awkward as hell and makes us actually want to kill them all.

So… um.. guys Ty ….. uh, Colfax from The ….uh-- G… 4. Just wanted to …. uh, say… You guys… er..um this …. vi…de…um..o featuring, uh -- Lars trying… to understand - um, technology. So cool, especially... you, Feed reader XxXlob076. teh kewl.. is uh.. what you are. and um… reee … uh, relate to…. the internets with.. all --their uh web… uh.. sites and um, money. BUY ME!

It's really funny to watching Lars try to wrap his brain around internet marketing and loss leaders all while being "hip" and "with it."

Miley Cyrus playing Rock Band on the VMAs last night had me asking: "How can I be into the same thing that this person is into?"

Well, the fat lady has sung....er, rapped.

The Madden NFL '09 challenge issued by rapper Bow Wow toward s**t-talkin’ gangsta rapper The Game is over and a winner has emerged.

The Game crushed his opponent, 55 to 23, and the Lil’ One owes him a cool $100,000.

The rappers threw down at the showdown in Los Angeles on Friday, Sept. 5,  with The Game arriving in black eye paint and a mouth guard ready for the virtual challenge. Bow Wow pitted his Cincinnati Bengals against The Game's New England Patriots, but by the first quarter it was 28-0 to The Game. Yikes!

The 21-year-old stepped up his game and scored in the second quarter, but he was no match for The Game, who soon destroyed him.

Colbert Launches DNA Into Space

Posted September 8, 2008 - By Stephen Johnson

Stephen Colbert, TV host and fake political pundit, is joining luminaries like Richard Garriott, top-players in Tabula Rasa and The MMO Report's own Casey Schreiner in space. Colbert has agreed to provide a DNA sample to Richard Garriot's Operation Immortality. The Colbert DNA will be digitized and stored forever in the International Space Station to serve as a remote offsite backup of the human race

“I am thrilled to have my DNA shot into space, as this brings me one step closer to my life-long dream of being the baby at the end of 2001," said Colbert.

A world populated only with descendants of Casey and Colbert is like heaven on earth!

Check out Garriot talking Immortality below:
