Freestyle 101 New Artist Month: Ikka-Bod

Posted September 23, 2008 - By Frank Meyer

Freestyle 101 New Artist Month: Ikka-Bod »

Watch Larger Version of this Video

Freestyle 101's New Artist Month carries on with Detroit native Ikka-Bod, known to the world as a member of Hevi Medal, M.O.P.’s kick ass hard rock band.

After years of grinding in the Motor City alongside greats like D12 and Slum Village, Ikka-Bod found his way to New York, where he hooked up with the First Family and M.O.P. clique. When Billy Danze and Lil’ Fame decided to start a heavy metal band they naturally turned to Ikka-Bod to be one of the frontmen. Peep the mixtape joint “7:30” to see what all the noise is about. Meanwhile, he issued a series of indie albums and mixtapes, including Hold On 40, Life Captured In 3 Minutes and Got What You Want, which received much critical praise and street buzz.

So Freestyle 101 was stoked to get Ikka-Bod in the booth at Play Studios in New York through our buddy Laze E. Laze to spit over a dope Messiaz beat. And, man, he threw in so many videogames references our head was spinning. Good stuff!

Lose 100 Pounds With 'World of Warcraft'

Posted September 22, 2008 - By jmanalang

Hey, Althaea just lost 100 pounds! Thanks World of Warcraft!

Imitating the folks who have attached a treadmill to their computers in order to simulate the real WoW experience, a player from the Eitrigg server claims that he has lost over 100 pounds by traversing the lands of Azeroth via "WarBiking". In an interview with WoWInsider, the entity known as Althaea said:

"I'd been thinking about the treadmill for several months. I don't know whether it was before or after the apnea diagnosis, but I did come across some of the "everyday exercise" research that's going on at the Mayo Clinic. Basically, though, I'd been thinking that I only use a few left-hand key bindings for most of my WoW play, and I use the arrow keys for movement (I know, I know, L2P, blah blah blah) -- so why couldn't I rig up some sort of way to put a computer on a treadmill and play?"

Yes, why not? Because not only did he shed the weight, but according to the interview, the WoW excercise also helped him diagnose his sleep apnea. Amazing! We're still trying to blueprint our own exercise contraption. Hit the jump to see the WoW treadmill in action!

Hackers To Attack Bill O'Reilly?

Posted September 19, 2008 - By Stephen Johnson

We hear on the internet underground that hackers and/or script-kiddies have declared an internet war against Fox News and columnist Bill O'Reilly and plan a cyber-assault for later today. Reportedly, parts of O'Reilly's site have already been compromised.  This is serious business, no doubt.

To get to the bottom of the issue, we spoke to an insider, a frequent poster at Detructoid's forum as well as a certain well known online support group for young-adult agoraphobics where these things are planned and executed. He prefers to remain anonymous.

(We starred-out the names of internet sites because, apparently, they don't like to be noticed.)

G4:  What are the plans for the attack on Bill O’Reilly/ Fox News?

Anonymous Guy: As far as I know, all that was planned was DDoS attacks against Bill's site and/or Fox News's site at around 5 PM today Eastern Standard Time. This information was posted publicly on many threads over the past few days, so it's not like this was a widely kept secret. As of right now it looks like some people may have started doing DDoS attacks already though, so either that time got bumped, or people are just posting others' IPs on 4*** in hopes /*/ will attack other people.

Toshiba's Remote-Less Controls

Posted September 19, 2008 - By Stephen Johnson

Toshiba's next series of televisions may feature gesture-based controls, so watchers can control their televisions remotely without the remote control. Here's a video of the technology in action:

Pretty slick and sci-fi, eh? As someone who constantly loses any remote control that touches my hand, this could be a godsend. But it also might be a gimmick--other than the aforementioned losing problem, remote controls seem like the perfect input device for a TV, much like a keyboard and mouse are a much better way of communicating with your computer than, say, Star Trek style speech. Hopefully, we'll all get a chance to try it out and judge for ourselves.
