Starting August 25, make a difference in your country and pause that Halo 3 online mutliplayer to register to vote on Xbox Live.

Microsoft announced today that they have partnered with Rock The Vote to bring voter registration to Xbox live. "To realize our goal of registering 2 million young Americans by this fall, we need to go where young Americans are, and there's no doubt in our minds that many are on Xbox 360 and Xbox Live," said by Rock The Vote director Heather Smith. Presidential polls and forums will also be provided by Microsoft.

"If Xbox Live were a state, it would rank as the country's seventh largest, giving it approximately 20 electoral votes," said by Microsoft. The state of Xbox Live is currently populated by 12 million users, and is known for their corn agriculture, also endless hours of online play. So go ahead and register, and don't stop making a difference in society--cause we can't stop, and we won't stop. Eh eh...eh eh.

Add Gamertags On Your iPod?

Let's say you're out at a bar, and a really hot woman wants to give you her Xbox gamertag so you can play PuzzleQuest with her on LIVE*. What do you do? You can swipe a soggy bar napkin and write the digits down, sure, but wouldn't it be suave to whip out your iPhone and add her "Hotchica87" gamertag right there? Soon, the above scenario may come true.

1337pwn is a 360 application that can already be used on your iPhone, and it's author, Det Ansinn, is working on adding on-the-fly friend list manipulation.

“It’s not elegant, but I think that we can get it working,” said Ansinn. “If I can’t get it solid, it won’t make the cut. It’s being worked on.”

*the above scenario probably won't ever happen to you.

Activision had an ace up its sleeve at their press conference this morning in Germany: Gary Oldman. The renowned, Oscar-winning actor will voice a character in upcoming World War II game Call of Duty: World At War!

The "actor's actor" will be joined by Kiefer Sutherland, who plays main character Sgt. Roebuck in the game. World At War is an FPS set partially in the Pacific theater during WW II. It features flamethrowers, Molotov cocktails, flame tanks, and much, much more.

The game comes to the DS, PC, PS3, 360, Wii and mobile phones this fall.

Tons of videos from Warner Music Group acts will be made available on Microsoft’s Xbox LIVE, beginning this week.

Over 12 million Xbox LIVE members worldwide will be able download music videos by featured WMG artists from Xbox LIVE Marketplace and watch them on their Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system. Video will include clips by Death Cab For Cutie, Flo Rida, Matchbox Twenty, Panic! At the Disco and T.I. among others, with more to come down the line.

“Xbox 360 has been an important partner in our efforts to offer consumers more ways to experience our artists’ music and this is especially true among gamers who are some of the most passionate music fans,” said Larry Mattera, WEA Senior Vice President Digital Sales & Marketing. “With this agreement, we can take advantage of Microsoft’s music platform and provide gamers what they want: music videos from their favorite artists that can be downloaded quickly and easily.”

And coming this fall, Microsoft will introduce a new Xbox experience that they say will “reinvent home entertainment from the inside out, changing the way people stay in touch and enjoy the best entertainment content.”  Hmmmmmm...

Midway might be in trouble. Last week three high-ranking officials left the company thanks to a very poor performance in the last financial quarter, and now Midway's Austin studio is laying off anywhere from 90 to 130 employees, and canceling Criminal, a game that was first reported to be in development two years ago.

In a press release, Midway assured the media that the studio will stay open, and these layoffs are a result of the cancelation of the game, not vice versa. Add this to the list of things shaking up the videogame industry from the inside out. We'll keep you posted if anything more develops.

Joystiq: Midway Austin Facing 90 Layoffs, Criminal Canceled

We all know that chainsaw + machine gun = awesome. Now your dreams of holding a gas powered weapon of dismemberment in your hands are that much closer. Amazon has put up a pre-order page on their website for the exclusive Gears of War 2 Lancer toy replica. It's full size, has a removable clip, makes chainsaw sounds when you pull the trigger, and is spattered in fake blood. So awesome.

You can purchase the toy of epic slaughter for $139.99, which includes a copy of Gears of War 2, or drop an additional 10 bucks and you'll get the Gears of War 2 Special Edition. All items will be shipped on November 7th, and you can blame Microsoft when your little brother tries to cut your sister in half.

It's tough being the Zune, perpetual second-placer to the mighty iPod, but Microsoft is looking to change the paradigm by bringing Hollywood exclusives to their portable music/movie player, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The company says it's in an "exploratory phase" with Zune-exclusive content, kind of like your ex-girlfriend was in an exploratory phase after she went off to college.

"What we would be looking to do with any form of original content is the added component that Zune could provide that iTunes or any competing service couldn't," Microsoft's Richard Winn told the Hollywood Reporter. Zinn is talking about the Zune's ability to share content among machines, which, in turn is patterned after Xbox Live. Halo 3 caused countless gamers to go from single-player to multiplayer, and thus pay into the Xbox subscription service, and Zune is hoping for the same kind of shift.

If anyone asks us for a Fool's Gold (starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey) movie night, we'll pass...along with 2K Games founder Ken Levine. Speaking with Videogaming247 about the upcoming film adaptation of BioShock, Levine said:

“You’re always going to be worried that in that first meeting [the film producers are] going to be, like, ‘OK, it’s Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey on a desert island hunting for pirate treasure,’ but it’s not going to go that way."

Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski is currently on the seat for the movie. According to Levine, Verbinski actually "gets" the BioShock franchise. “My expectation at this time, from everything that I’ve heard, is that it will very much honour the dramatic and thematic elements of the game… They certainly understand the material and are able to provide a stamp of their own.”
