Akira Live Action Film To Get Tron: Legacy Star?

The long-in-production live action adaptation of Akira will finally get moving.

Not only has Warner Bros. officially given it the greenlight, but reports seem to indicate that it may be closing in on a new star for the role of rebel cyberpunk, Kaneda in Tron: Legacy star, Garrett Hedlund.

Slated for a late-February/early-March start, the film will finally pick up the pieces left after the departure of original director, Albert Hughes, and the loss of potential star, Keanu Reeves.

With director, Jaume Collet-Serra picked to helm the film back in July, the rendition of the classic Japanese manga and the seminal anime film could see a star who'll be trading his light cycle for a more conventional two-wheeled hog.

Potential Names For Android's Next OS

In the wake of the Apple iOS5 release, Android has announced news of their own: Ice Cream Sandwich, the latest OS version that offers a range of cool features like flexible widgets, data usage management, the People App and so much more. But hold on. Is this OS really called "Ice Cream Sandwich"?

It's true! Google is known for naming their Android products after desserts in alphabetical order--which explains where the ice cream sandwich comes in--but they won't say why. Who cares "why" because isn't the answer obvious? Desserts are the best thing ever. So we want to ask, WHAT'S NEXT?

We thought we'd let our mouths water by coming up with the names for Android's future OS releases. Check it out after the jump.

Judge Dredd Remake: Director Fired

It appears that news of a directorial shake-up with the (already shot) Judge Dredd reboot film, Dredd have been exaggerated. According to a released statement, director, Pete Travis has NOT been fired from the film as previous reports indicated.

In a joint statement by Travis and screenwriter, Alex Garland (who the report cited as the film's new director,) the film remains a creative collaboration between the two of them. Any indications of a Travis' departure were apparently "misinterpreted."

What did they have to say?

Judge Dredd Reboot: Director Fired

In an odd development, the upcoming reboot of the Judge Dredd franchise, simply titled Dredd, has found its director, Pete Travis dismissed from his duties on the film. But wait, here's the catch: The movie has already finished shooting!

Thus far, the circumstances surrounding Travis' exit remain unknown. Nevertheless, Dredd now finds itself in a bizarre situation where the film's scriptwriter and producer, Alex Garland is left picking up the pieces in the post-production phase. Considering that there are still considerable artistic choices to be made in that job, it may come down to Garland filing a request to have a co-director credit on the film. (Although that has not happened, yet.)

The film, starring Karl Urban (seen above) as the badass futuristic Judge is said to take a much darker, more intense tone than the 1995 Judge Dredd film starring Sylvester Stallone.

Where does this leave Dredd, now?

Open Leg Mouse Pad Is Gross

So I've seen the "busty" mouse pads where you can rest your wear hands in a lady's cleavage but...This? What is this?!? Oh, it's the "Open Leg Mouse Pad" of the Tiger & Bunny anime character, available to buy for a whopping $95. Why is this mouse pad so much more expensive than the girl versions? Rude!

In a really cool, unexpected turn, Pixar has taken their beloved, slickly animated Toy Story franchise and turned it into an awesome, yet not-so-slickly-animated stop motion short. Although the Toy Story short lacks the luster of a fully CGI film, it still has a lot of heart and reminds us of the wonder of childhood and isn't that what Toy Story is all about anyway? Also, the Toy Story short is a great tool for schilling toys to youngsters.

Vin Diesel Returns As Riddick In 2012

It appears that Vin Diesel will indeed be back as the nocturnal killer convict, Richard B. Riddick in 2012.

While the actor shows no signs of slowing down when it comes to The Fast And The Furious franchise as a sixth entry is on the way in 2013, the actor actually dropped a major announcement on his Facebook about the state of his other vehicle in the Riddick films.

Not only is the actor committed to getting back to his intergalactic badass ways, but he plans on getting it in theaters as soon as next year. It's a tall order, considering we've just rounded the last quarter of 2011, but he does seem confident.

The actor also posted an extremely cool new concept art poster for film to go with the announcement.

Finding Use For Your Stupid Kid

Baxter

"Your child is stupid? Turn it into a broom!"

Face it, when you're stuck with a kid that only spends the days running around making stuff sticky, there's not much you can do. And selling them into indentured servitude like in the old days just doesn't fly any longer. So, why not put them to productive use in spite of themselves?

If there's one thing that George Lucas does, it's make Star Wars products that you'll shill out your hard earned money for. So, why hasn't he made this awesome no-brainer? We are long overdue for a Chia Pet modeled after our favorite Wookiee.
