The Avengers Unveils Awesome New TV Spots

The identity of the nameless aliens that we've been seeing for quite some time in footage from The Avengers has seemingly been revealed.

The film had its premiere last night, nearly a month away from its official May 4 debut, so intel is slowly leaking, in spite of the obvious moratorium on such info. As anyone with even a casual familiarity with Internet fan circles knows, that sort of thing cannot be contained.

Read the very spoileriffic tidbit below if you can't wait.

The Hunger Games Sequel Loses Director

With The Hunger Games currently having grossed nearly $380 million in a few short weeks, it seems that the new power player film franchise will go into its impending sequel without director, Gary Ross.

According to The Playlist, the director of the blockbuster first entry has dropped out from returning. While rumors had the reasoning pegged to the director being put off from an apparent lowball deal from Lionsgate studio, they are reporting that it was more about Ross' creative inclinations, which don't exactly leave him enthusiastic to do "repeats."

The Hunger Games Retro NES Cover

It was the first cartridge to be shaped like a slice a bread.

Sure, it took its share of liberties, including a questionable bonus round where you had to play Tetris inside a giant stomach to alleviate its "hunger," but it was overall solid as far as licensed stuff went.

Captain America Sequel Narrows Down Directors

It seems that Marvel Studios has narrowed down its candidates to direct the upcoming second Captain America solo film. The media blitzkrieg is getting ready to go full force with The Avengers on May 4, but Marvel is also focusing on a little matter of the other Avengers-related movies, specifically the sequel to last year's blockbuster, Captain America: The First Avenger.

According to New York Magazine's Vulture, the job is now between The Adjustment Bureau helmer, George Nolfi, Law Abiding Citizen and Be Cool helmer, F. Gary Gray (who may get some sympathy since his name is so self-deprecating,) and finally, the brotherly duo of Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, whose directorial work on television on Community, Happy Endings, and Arrested Development make them rather curious choices for this mega-action epic.

It will certainly be interesting to see where the unfrozen juiced-up super-patriot winds up after having tangled with Norse Gods and alien invaders. -- A reunion with Hugo Weaving's Red Skull? Maybe a throwdown with Baron Zemo? Perhaps a beatdown is in order to his comic book killer, Crossbones?
