'The Orphanage' First Look
Posted by Eugene Morton - Thursday, January 03, 2008 2:38 PM
Did you see Pan’s Labyrinth? If you didn’t, get to your local video store and rent yourself a copy, because it’s a great film (in Spanish, so you know). Well, the movie’s director, Guillermo Del Toro is back with The Orphanage, a supernatural thriller about an orphanage that is haunted by the malevolent ghosts of tormented children.
If that doesn’t scare you, hearken back to your childhood days on the playground. You think the kids were cruel then, imagine how mean they would have been with ghost like powers. See, you’re shaking. Boo!
Any way, we’ll speak with the cast of the Oscar hopeful today and scare up some inside info on the scariest (and probably only) foreign film you should spend your time watching this year. Be there, horror-heads.

Who wants to wade through all of that just to see pictures of idiots harming themselves? Nobody, that’s who!

There are few things we like more than anime and getting Zach Selwyn to dress in funny costumes. Unfortunately, he refused to do a “12 months of Zach Selwyn CosPlay Calendar,” so the only way we could get the living cartoon to get all dolled up for our amusement (not to mention, get a lens full of scantily clad babes) was to send him to the Big Apple for the First Annual New York Anime Festival.
The moment that ball of energy entered the building, things got more explosive than when Goku faced down Vegita for the first time. Anime fans will get that reference, the rest of you just tune in for the scantily clad babes.

The Loop: Apple Tries Movie Rentals
Posted by Eugene Morton - Thursday, January 03, 2008 10:53 AM

Everyone’s been trying to corner the digital movie rental market in some form or another. Netflix has branched out to include digital downloads, mainstays like Movielink and CinemaNow have been at for years and until recently, even Walmart found it self vying for a piece of the pie.
Now, Apple is looking to cash in by offering digital movie rentals through the iPhone. Will Apple succeed in an already crowded marketplace?
To give their two cents, we’ll welcome Editor In Chief for Engadget, Ryan Block and the Editor for Wired News, Danny Dumas.
