Really? Who is this kid?Ubisoft threw a big launch party for their new game Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party. The good news is that famous people showed up! The bad news is that the famous people who showed up are the same famous people you'd want to gather together into one room, lock the door and watch as they tried to decide who to eat first.

The lame-o guest list included Ryan Cabrera (pictured, but who?), Corey Feldman (completely irrelevant child actor FTW), Shalim Ortiz (double who?), CariDee English (excellent use of intercaps, but who?) and many more! BAH!

The only celeb on the list that made sense was Kim Kardashian, who's in some advertising for the game. Now, whether or not the buxom beauty makes sense as a spokeswoman for a kid's game, is up to you.

Now, Rayman was produced by those crazy baguette lovers over at Ubisoft Paris. My theory is this: Since we know everyone who lives in France is a mime, perhaps they had trouble booking A-List celebrities because they were stuck in invisible boxes that they built themselves.

Wii: Tough To Find At Christmas

Posted November 21, 2008 - By kijibe

This holiday season, you can deck the halls with boughs of holly, but good luck getting your hands on a Nintendo Wii.

As its supply has been deficient for the past two years, Gamestop is predicting that it will be another dismal season of scouring shelves to locate the Wii.

David Carlson, CFO at Gamestop says, "Wii Fit is in very, very short supply. It sells through as quickly as it hits the stores." He is predicting another Christmas in which consumers will be hunting stores causing shelves to empty out of the Wii quickly.

"..And although the Wii hardware is in very good supply right now we believe it may as well be out of stock by the holiday season."

Majesco Plays Nice With PETA

Posted November 20, 2008 - By kijibe

Anybody who's unfortunate enough to come within the firing lines of PETA can garner some sympathy here.

Recently, Majesco got skewered by the folks at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals with their own blood-soaked parody called Cooking Mama: Mama Kills Animals.

PETA's version is similar to the Nintendo DS and Wii series Cooking Mama, except theirs tries to gross out the player to the notion of eating meat by focusing on the killing and cleaning of a turkey in preparation for a Thanksgiving dinner.

It parodies the original Mama as a knife-wielding blood curdling murderess.

Apple Throws Down Portable Gaming Challenge

Posted September 9, 2008 - By bleahy

A big part of Apple's presentation today was focused on portable gaming on the iPhone and iPod Touch. A challenge has been issued to Nintendo and Sony. Apple CEO Steve Jobs said that the iPod Touch (and by extension, the iPhone), is "the best portable device for playing games."

The best? Sure, we love some of the iPhone/Touch games we've played, but they still don't match up to the Nintendo DS and PSP. At least, not yet.

Spore Origins was shown off at Apple's event and looks great, but is still a limited game when compared to the full version of Spore or other titles on the DS or PSP. Don't expect to see too many epic RPG's or classic franchises on the iPhone.

Another game, Real Soccer 2009, was shown off and is available for purchase today. Certainly something that should impress the international crowd, but you'll have to come up with something better than soccer for the US, Apple.

What do you think? Would you ever give up your PSP or DS for an iPod Touch or would you do what we do and just carry both?

Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik, the creators of the Penny Arcade webcomic and the Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle, mentioned in an interview with 1up that starting in 2010 they will hold a second yearly PAX event in Boston. The new PAX is still in the early planning stages at the moment, but will act as a compliment to the existing PAX in Seattle, not a replacement. This was apparently spawned by a presentation the animated duo gave at MIT a few years back, where they swore they would return to Boston...at some point in the future.

I, for one, welcome this new event. Boston is a beautiful city (at the right time of the year) and has a wonderful setting for an event such as this. May I suggest holding the event sometime in the spring or fall? Trust me, you don't want to get stuck in 3 feet of snow in January or in 110 degree heat with 98% humidity in August.

Dual Touch Nintendo DS On The Way?

Posted August 27, 2008 - By Frank Meyer

Rumor has it that Nintendo is working on an updated DS with two touch screens!

Industry insiders say the new dual touch model also features slightly bigger screens, and players can interact via the stylus with game play on both screens.

But the updated DS won't come out until early next year though, so keep yer pants on, Charlie!

UPDATE: Nintendo labeled the talk "rumor and speculation." Hmm...not a denial, exactly.

We all know Miyamoto is a gaming god, but what you may not have known is that he's an avid hobbiest, and that those hobbies have more often than not lead to success for Nintendo. When Miyamoto was into puzzles, he made Brain Age; when he wanted to exercise more, he made Wii Fit; and when he started studying music, we got...you guessed it, Wii Music. Because of this trend, Nintendo has forbid Mister Shigeru Miyamoto from discussing his hobbies with anyone. Considering whatever past-time the godfather is enjoying will probably give clues towards what Nintendo is working on, it doesn't sound all that far fetched. Then again, you're not Miyamoto. Imagine if you were legally obligated to not answer when someone asked you, "So, what have you been up to lately?" I'm pretty sure the proper legal response from Miyamoto would be to plug up his ears and run away screaming LAH LAH LAH LAH LAH LAH LAH LAH!!!!!!
