E3 2010: Mario Kart 3DS PreviewBy Patrick Klepek - Posted Jun 17, 2010
What We Already Know
Nintendo doesn’t tinker too much with the Mario Kart formula for good reason – the series continues to sell at record paces. Mario Kart Wii, far more traditional (outside of the motion control) than GameCube’s Mario Kart: Double Dash, has become a massive, unending hit on Wii. Mario Kart DS has also been one of the best sellers on DS, which makes it little surprise Nintendo would lead 3DS with Mario Kart.
What We’re Seeing Now
There isn’t much to say about Mario Kart on 3DS outside of the visuals receiving a substantive upgrade. The 3D wasn’t particular prevalent in the Mario Kart demo, but that’s because there just wasn’t much for the demo to show off. Mario and Luigi were going around an otherwise standard Mario Kart track with the addition of 3DS effects. No power-ups, nothing jumping at the screen. It’s more Mario Kart, except this time with option to turn on some 3D. No doubt there’s more to it, but until Nintendo is willing to tell us more about the game itself, that’s all she wrote.
