E3 2010: Animal Crossing 3DS Preview

What We Already Know

There were rumors about a 3D enhanced Animal Crossing alongside the deluge of Nintendo 3DS rumor just prior to the machine’s announcement. E3 2010 confirmed Animal Crossing is coming to 3DS with (obviously) 3D.

What We’re Seeing Now

The non-interactive (but real-time) Animal Crossing Demo didn’t answer much else besides proving that 3D works within the Animal Crossing universe. It did more than prove it, too. Animal Crossing’s art was gorgeous on the widescreen 3DS display. As was the case with many other 3DS demos, the 3D wasn’t noticeable – and that’s not a negative. The 3D added real, tangible depth to the on-screen image, the greatest asset of 3D. It fit perfectly. I was forced to quickly jump over to another 3DS demo before Animal Crossing concluded, preventing me from culling anything important from what may be changing in terms of gameplay.

As far as I know, this will be a released game. I saw snaps of this game, and I must say I'm impressed. The characters are taller and less chibi-like, which is good for those (like me) who don't dig the "cute" look. I only have one concern: what games to buy, Animal Crossing, Star Fox, Pilot Wings, or Zelda Ocarina of Time? They all are games based on the N64 games we've come to know and love (Animal Crossing was originally on the N64DD in Japan as Animal Forest and was later ported to GameCube)
