[10:21] Dana Vinson: "Hey everyone! We're live from the Warner Bros Comic-Con 2009 Panel. Right now, we're just waiting for them to get all 6,500 nerds inside Hall H and get started."
[10:22] Dana Vinson: "Here's how it works, this is only a text live blog because Comic-Con doesn't allow filming of any of their panels, so unfortunately, you won't see any pictures or video; however, you'll get all the news and happenings."
[10:22] Dana Vinson: "Also, feel free to make comments and ask questions. Your comments won't display in the feed itself, but I'll be able to see them and respond when I can!"
[10:25] Dana Vinson: "Alright, here we go!"
[10:26] Dana Vinson: "They're getting started with Where The Wild Things Are..."
[10:30] Dana Vinson: "Maurice Sendak and Spike Jonze are talking on a video about how Where The Wild Things Are."
[10:30] Dana Vinson: "Sorry, updates will be slow. Comic-Con security is making me close my laptop everytime they show a clip. They're about to show a bunch of footage from the movie. I'll recap each after their done."
[10:31] Dana Vinson: "In the last video, Sendak was extremely excited about the film. Really likes what Jonze has done with the visuals and expanding the story."
[10:32] Dana Vinson: "Now the star of the film, Max, is talking about his experience shooting the movie. Jonze almost lit him on fire in an effort to get a real reaction out of him."
[10:44] Dana Vinson: "This kid is adorable. I'm so happey he didn't really get set on fire."
[10:44] Dana Vinson: "Ok, that was a lot of clips. The movie looks great, extremely well done. Great cinematography! The costumes are amazing and more than that, the performances are AWESOME! Very moving. Just in those short clips, I was almost moved to tears. It was really great."
[10:45] Dana Vinson: "Comes out on October 16th."
[10:49] Dana Vinson: "Just got a look at The Book of Eli...based on the comic book Billy. Now, they're bringing out the directors of the movie, the Huges Brothers."
[10:50] Dana Vinson: "Now, we're going to see the teaser trailer for the film."
[10:52] Dana Vinson: "Sorry again that the updates are so slow, the security here is beyond tight. Everytime the lights go down, I have to close my laptop."
[10:53] Dana Vinson: "Teaser trailer for The Book of Eli: Denzel Washingon, Mila Kunis, Gary Oldman...Comes out January 15th, 2010."
[10:53] Dana Vinson: "Looks very much like Fallout 3 on the big screen."
[10:53] Dana Vinson: "Now they're bringing out the cast!!!"
[10:54] Dana Vinson: "Washington, Oldman and Kunis are all here live at Comic-Con. This is pretty awesome."
[10:55] Dana Vinson: "I'm going to answer some of the questions I've been getting in the comments...Where the Wild Things Are is Spike's version. Sendak said in the video that it's totally his version and from the clips we saw, it seems like the studio lost out in this situation, which is a win for us in the audience."
[10:56] Dana Vinson: "Unfortunately, none of the WTWTA people came to the panel, so we just saw a bunch of clips. Not much info beyond that."
[10:57] Dana Vinson: "Ok, back to The Book of Eli..."
[10:58] Dana Vinson: "Gary Oldman (GO) talking about how he's been trying to get to Comic-Con for 10 years. Excited to be here."
[10:58] Dana Vinson: "DW says he realized at the script read-thru that he was playing the wrong part...says that GO's part is the juicy role."
[10:59] Dana Vinson: "Denzel Washington is hilarious. He just made a great joke about New Mexico."
[11:01] Dana Vinson: "Now they're doing audience Q and A...the directors are twin brothers, so a set of twins just asked Kunis what it's like to work with twins."
[11:01] Dana Vinson: "Denzel just said that working with Oldman was like "having good sex." Oldman agreed. There was chemistry between them...and role play!"
[11:02] Dana Vinson: "Oh they're embarrassed now. The joke went too far, but they're cracking themselves up."
[11:03] Dana Vinson: "Yeah, GO tried to get to comic-con for Batman, but couldn't make it because of scheduling conflicts. So, he's really excited to be here."
[11:04] Dana Vinson: "This is, hands down, the most entertaining panel I've been to this week. I can tell this movie is going to be great, because it seems everyone had a lot of fun making it and is really enthusiastic about it."
[11:05] Dana Vinson: "An 8 year old boy just asked the most intelligent question so-far..."
[11:05] Dana Vinson: "To Denzel: how long did it take you to capture the character of Eli?"
[11:05] Dana Vinson: "Denzel: About 6 months. A bunch of martial arts training. Denzel does all his own fights and stunts in the movie. Crazy!"
[11:06] Dana Vinson: "GO: I've been less the crazy guy than you think, but I guess those are the roles you remember."
[11:06] Dana Vinson: "The next Batman movie starts shooting NEXT YEAR!!!"
[11:06] Dana Vinson: "Straigt from GO, we should have another Batman movie in the next two years."
[11:08] Dana Vinson: "Now the cast is pausing for a photo op with the fans on stage. I guess this is where the No Running announcements come into play."
[11:08] Dana Vinson: "Ok, Nightmare on Elm Street time"
[11:08] Dana Vinson: "Bringing out the producers of the film, including Andrew Form, Brad Fuller and Samuel Bayer."
[11:09] Dana Vinson: "Sam Bayer, is the director."
[11:09] Dana Vinson: "They wrapped the movie two weeks ago...now a clip."
[11:11] Dana Vinson: "Just showed the trailer. Jesus, that was creepy."
[11:12] Dana Vinson: "Jackie Earle-Haley is out on stage. He is going to be great as Freddy Krueger."
[11:13] Dana Vinson: "The teaser trailer included the scene where Freddy gets burned and then after that a really dark montage of different scenes from the film."
[11:13] Dana Vinson: "Sam Bayer is talking about how the audience will be "blown away" by Earle-Haley's performance."
[11:14] Dana Vinson: "Fuller: This isn't an origin story, but you do get a backstory and a new mythology based on the originals."
[11:15] Dana Vinson: "Wow, lots of questions about Nightmare...I'll try to answer some of them."
[11:16] Dana Vinson: "The series is going in a much darker, deeper direction."
[11:17] Dana Vinson: "It is definitely scary Freddy. He is back to murdering sweet little children, lots of blood and gore. Freddy was the center of the trailer, even though you only got to see him here and there, but it was apparent that you could feel him in the room."
[11:17] Dana Vinson: "The director just called him "A terrifying Freddy""
[11:18] Dana Vinson: "They didn't show Freddy's face, unfortunately."
[11:18] Dana Vinson: "I don't know when the trailer will get official release, but I'm sure it'll be online shortly after Comic-Con."
[11:18] Dana Vinson: "The audience is responding really well to both the trailer and this panel. They're loving the direction this movie is taking with the re-boot."
[11:21] Dana Vinson: "Earle-Haley just said it was important to him to do this remake because it would be introducing a new generation to the Nightmare series."
[11:21] Dana Vinson: "They confirmed that Robert Englund will NOT makea cameo."
[11:22] Dana Vinson: "Here's a rundown of the trailer:"
[11:22] Dana Vinson: "We see Krueger running...but he's a normal guy. Cars are chasing him through a rundown ghetto outside of town."
[11:23] Dana Vinson: "The cars catch him, the Elm St. neighbors pile out of their cars...Krueger hides in a building, they set it on fire, he is burned..."
[11:23] Dana Vinson: "He runs out of the building completely engulfed in flames."
[11:24] Dana Vinson: "Then it's a quick montage of the neighbors being terrorized, blood everywhere...funerals, girls playing...."
[11:30] Dana Vinson: "No Rooney Mara..."
[11:31] Dana Vinson: "And now we're moving on to Richard Kelly's "The Box". Starring Cameron Diaz and James Marsden."
[11:32] Dana Vinson: "(One more Nightmare tidbit...Yes, you do see the glove for a quick second, scraping some metal. The whole trailer was extremely, extremely creepy, but it was just a teaser trailer, so we didn't get to see a whole lot. Quick cuts.)"
[11:33] Dana Vinson: "Back to The Box...Kelly directed Donnie Darko, and The Box looks similarly strange with a bigger budget."
[11:34] Dana Vinson: "Don't get me wrong, The Box looks cool, but definitely intense and a little out there."
[11:34] Dana Vinson: "Richard Kelly has giant arms, btw."
[11:35] Dana Vinson: "Giant Arms hopes that this is the kind of movie that you'll leave the theater talking about with your friends and family."
[11:37] Dana Vinson: "The Box quick plot synopsis: A strange man brings a box to Cameron Diaz's house. The box is just a button. He tells her that if she pushes the button two things happen one, someone she doesn't know will die and two, she'll get a million dollars. She presses the button and she and her husband (James Marsden) get wrapped up in a conspiracy adventure with other people who have the same box."
[11:38] Dana Vinson: "The trailer got a mixed response. I don't think it's for everyone...Kelly's films seem to be a little niche. Great, but don't necessarily appeal to the masses."
[11:39] Dana Vinson: "The film looks very interesting though, I do fear that it might come off as heavy handed social commentary, but I trust Kelly, so I don't think he would let that happen."
[11:40] Dana Vinson: "Diaz just called it "Kubrick-esque""
[11:41] Dana Vinson: "Kelly did mention that The Arcade Fire will do the soundtrack."
[11:41] Dana Vinson: "Marsden was just asked about Superman...says he knows nothing and that he's not lying, but he doesn't know a thing about any kind of follow up."
[11:44] Dana Vinson: "Someone in the comments just asked if it's hard to see Diaz in this serious of a role...to be honest, we didn't get to see a ton of her in the trailer, so I can't really answer that. I have my own opinion about it, but I will say that she's a big name and Kelly just said that because she signed on to the film, WB picked it up and that he wants to do bigger films."
[11:47] Dana Vinson: "The girl in front of me just won an autographed prop from the movie. They taped a poster to the bottom of one chair in a 6,500 person auditorium and THE GIRL IN THE CHAIR DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ME got to go on stage and meet everyone. SEAT PICKING FAIL."
[11:47] Dana Vinson: "Everyone around me is like "damn it!""
[11:48] Dana Vinson: "I'm just jealous she got to meet Kelly...and got to hug him."
[11:49] Dana Vinson: "LOL someone in the comments just said I probably "could have taken her down." HAHA! Probably; however, we're all friends here at Comic-Con."
[11:52] Dana Vinson: "Just showed the trailer for Jonah Hex."
[11:53] Dana Vinson: "Trailer looked awesome...not a slow moving western at all, lots of fun, fire and sex...and that's just in the trailer."
[11:54] Dana Vinson: "Megan Fox and Josh Brolin is on stage...surprisingly, Brolin got more applause than Fox."
[11:56] Dana Vinson: "The trailer was just a teaser, so we didn't get to see a lot of acting from Fox, but Brolin look awesome, as always."
[11:57] Dana Vinson: "The film did look super intense...not the typical sort of washed-out western. Really dark...sort of Deadwood-esque."
[11:57] Dana Vinson: "Only with a lot more action and bigger budget."
[11:58] Dana Vinson: "Let me clarify, when I say "we didn't get see much acting from Fox" I mean that in the trailer, since it was a teaser, there wasn't much dialogue. So we just saw quick shots of her doing different stuff."
[12:00] Dana Vinson: "Haha, I guess I need to choose my words more carefully. When I say "doing stuff," I mean...wait, no, that's exactly what I meant."
[12:01] Dana Vinson: "Someone in the audience just shouted "Let's see it again!" The audience really liked the trailer."
[12:03] Dana Vinson: "Guys, I'm warning you now...my laptop is super low on battery...if I suddenly duck out, it's because my laptop died."
[12:03] Dana Vinson: "So I appologize in advance...there are no outlets in Hall H!"
[12:05] Dana Vinson: "Someone from the audience just asked if the panelists would be interested in "making a sex tape." He was soundly boo'd and driven off. Brolin said: I would love to see what you look like in 30 minutes after all these people beat you up."
[12:05] Dana Vinson: "This just in...MEGAN FOX IS HOT! Thanks guy asking a question..."
[12:07] Dana Vinson: "Just for the record, Josh Brolin is amazing. Just like The Book of Eli, you can tell this movie is going to be good because the panel has a lot of chemistry, they're having a good time and the crowd is listening intently."
[12:08] Dana Vinson: "Josh Brolin is making fun of everyone who is asking a question."
[12:11] Dana Vinson: "Megan Fox licks her lips, crowd goes wild."
[12:12] Dana Vinson: "Robert Downey Jr. just came out on stage!!!!"
[12:12] Dana Vinson: "Sherlock Holmes time!"
[12:12] Dana Vinson: "He said "This is so fun. I love you guys so much""
[12:12] Dana Vinson: "We love you too RDJ!"
[12:13] Dana Vinson: "He talking about the legacy of SH, the movies, TV shows, etc..."
[12:19] Dana Vinson: "Just saw an extended trailer for SH"
[12:25] Dana Vinson: "Sorry for the delay...I'm back on my iPhone"
[12:28] Dana Vinson: "The crowd cannot get over RDJ. Every audience question is held up by hoots and whistles. Right now, they're talking about how the movie got the greenlight. RDJ says they wanted to make a smart movie, but also make it as entertaining as today's big movies need to be to be successful."
[12:31] Dana Vinson: "RDJ just said that he did this movie because he wanted a challenge, even though he gets "pissy" when he can't just roll out of bed and go to work."
[12:35] Dana Vinson: "Someone just asked RDJ what it was like to study Kung Fu...RDJ said that he could windmill though this entire crowd. Then he remarked, "no matter how much I think I'm a hardbody, Rachel always found a was to kick my ass. So the lesson is, never mess with a girl.""
[12:38] Dana Vinson: "Rachel and RDJ talking about hours of studying the SH source material. Even though it's based on the SH original universe, the movie is a totally new narrative."
[12:46] Brian Leahy: "That wraps up this panel, all. Dana is off to the next one and be sure to keep your browser locked to http://g4tv.com/comiccon all day for more coverage. So much more coverage!"
[12:46] Brian Leahy: "Thanks for following along and we'll see you at the next one!"
