Capcom 2009 Line-Up Comic-Con 2009 Panel Archive
By Patrick Klepek - Posted Jul 23, 2009[3:06] Patrick Klepek: "Hey guys -- I've made it into the Capcom Lineup panel. Andy Sandberg and Anna Faris just left the stage after promoting some movie. As expected, someone made a joke about being on a boat. *golf clap*"
[3:12] Patrick Klepek: "Everyone is up on the stage. There's a lot of people up there! Eight folks from Capcom, ready to talk about what's coming from the publisher in 2009."
[3:12] Patrick Klepek: "We should be starting any second now."
[3:15] Patrick Klepek: "Seth Killian, one of Capcom's community managers, is taking notes up on stage."
[3:16] Patrick Klepek: "Seth is introducing the panel. Key talent from Dark Void, Lost Planet 2, Spyborgs, Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles and Ace Attorney. "
[3:17] Patrick Klepek: "Lost Planet 2 producer Jun Takeuchi is speaking. "
[3:17] Patrick Klepek: ""Today I want to tell you about my other big project, Lost Planet 2.""
[3:18] Patrick Klepek: ""The basic idea behind the Lost Planet series is we wanted to make a shooter made out of Japan that would be loved all around the world.""
[3:18] Patrick Klepek: "Three major changes for Lost Planet 2."
[3:20] Patrick Klepek: "1) Gone further with co-op by introducing four players at the same time. 2) Fights with massive, massive bosses. (They're showing a scene with a giant boss with huge spikes on his back). Believes this is different from any shooter -- well, so long as you don't consider Shadow of the Colossus a shooter. The bosses have been designed for four-players specifically. Same "weak poit" style system, but introduction of jumping inside enemies and killing them from the inside out."
[3:21] Patrick Klepek: "Bosses are running on their own AI, not on a specific route, to allow for more dynamic battles."
[3:21] Patrick Klepek: "3) You can customize each of the characters in your team."
[3:22] Patrick Klepek: "Now they're about to roll the E3 trailer."
[3:22] Patrick Klepek: "Which, of course, you can view on G4tv.com. :)"
[3:24] Patrick Klepek: "The trailer, in a word, is big. Big bosses. Big weapons. Big environments. "
[3:24] Patrick Klepek: "Looked like a scene right out of Dune a the end there. Or the worm creature from Beetlejuice."
[3:25] Patrick Klepek: "Each "episode" or "stage" in Lost Planet 2 is different from one another. "
[3:26] Patrick Klepek: "Moving onto Dark Void."
[3:26] Patrick Klepek: "Producer Morgan Gray is talking about the game."
[3:27] Patrick Klepek: "Woo hoo! Powerpoint presentation slides!"
[3:27] Patrick Klepek: "Gray is talking about the legacy of Dark Void, which includes the development team behind fan favorite Crimson Skies. Where's my proper sequel?"
[3:28] Patrick Klepek: ""Not saying" what time period the game is set in."
[3:28] Patrick Klepek: "Big hint, however, is teaming up with Nicholas Tesla. Hmm."
[3:28] Patrick Klepek: "Vertical combat and cover are the big differentiators for Dark Void."
[3:30] Patrick Klepek: "Damn. He just called X-Files "old." I'm only 24 and I'm a huge X-Files fan. Boo."
[3:30] Patrick Klepek: "Dark Void attempts to play with all the conspiracy theories for aliens, parallel universes, weird places on Earth, etc."
[3:31] Patrick Klepek: "Rolling an E3 trailer -- and guess what, you can watch it right now at G4tv.com!"
[3:33] Patrick Klepek: "Spyborgs talk coming from Capcom's director of design Kraig Kujawa. Spyborgs received the smallest response from the crowd so far."
[3:33] Patrick Klepek: "Rolling a trailer. Maybe this will inspire applause for a game directed at kids?"
[3:34] Patrick Klepek: "It's probably not a good sign when there are three kids behind me and one is holding his dead down, covering his ears because it's so loud, another looks bored out of his mind and a third is actually asleep."
[3:38] Patrick Klepek: "Sorry about that, had to plug in the computer. :)"
[3:39] Patrick Klepek: "Masachika Kawata is about to talk some Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles. "Hello to all the zombies in San Diego!" [laughs]"
[3:39] Patrick Klepek: ""What we think is the greatest gun simulation game out there and it's a great horror game to boot.""
[3:40] Patrick Klepek: ""Before I say anything else, I'd like to show you the trailer, with some of your favorite characters, including Claire and Leon." Big claps from the audience."
[3:40] Patrick Klepek: "We're watching Claire and Leon make their way through the sewer, assumingly Resident Evil 2-based. OH GOD GIANT SPIDERS."
[3:41] Patrick Klepek: "I effin' hate spiders, man."
[3:41] Patrick Klepek: "I played a little bit of Darkside Chronicles at E3. It didn't pack the same "punch" when firing guns as House of the Dead did. I'll need some more time with it."
[3:42] Patrick Klepek: "Ooh, Ada Wong appearance."
[3:42] Patrick Klepek: "Capcom, please get moving on a REmake for Resident Evil 2."
[3:43] Patrick Klepek: ""This time we're really focusing on the horror elements in the game.""
[3:43] Patrick Klepek: ""As you probably noticed in the trailer, we really paid attention to lighting to really give you that true horror sense.""
[3:43] Patrick Klepek: ""There are times in the game where you won't be able to see things clearly." At this points, the sound effects will take over."
[3:44] Patrick Klepek: "Powerpoints, man. Powerpoints."
[3:45] Patrick Klepek: "Kawata says Umbrella Chronicles was really "in your face" about being a gun simulation game. For this one, he wanted to make that more seamless."
[3:45] Patrick Klepek: "Scoring elements and rankings have been added to Darkside Chronicles."
[3:46] Patrick Klepek: ""I think this game really stands out in the graphic capabilities in comparison to the previous incarnation." "
[3:46] Patrick Klepek: ""As far as next gen consoles are concerned, people think that the Wii has certain limitations." Kawata's team tasked themselves wish pushing through them."
[3:48] Patrick Klepek: "Last but not least is Ace Attorney with the producer Motohide Eshiro."
[3:48] Patrick Klepek: "Following Resident Evil is tough, he says. "We have some pretty manly things about our game, too. [laughs]""
[3:48] Patrick Klepek: "This game focuses on a character who emphasizes brain over brawn. To demonstrate this, there's a trailer."
[3:49] Patrick Klepek: "Someone just screamed for the character Dick Gumshoe. I have no idea what's going on with this series. People seem excited, though. Go them! Go Capcom!"
[3:51] Patrick Klepek: "People keep tripping over my power chord. :("
[3:51] Patrick Klepek: "The setting for this new Ace Attorney has moved from the court room to the crime scene."
[3:52] Patrick Klepek: "Man, more powerpoints. Japanese game makers LOVE powerpoints."
[3:52] Patrick Klepek: "A big difference between previous Ace Attorney games is direct control over Miles Edgeworth."
[3:55] Patrick Klepek: "Sterling McGarvey had a chance to interview Capcom about this new Ace Attorney earlier today -- look forward to that soon!"
[3:55] Patrick Klepek: "There are actually NO courtroom scenes this time around. Interesting. Bold move? Tell me, series fans."
[3:56] Patrick Klepek: "Capcom is giving a way a towel if you play Miles Edgeworth. That's actually a fantastic idea for Comic Con attendees. Thank you, Capcom."
[3:56] Patrick Klepek: "Q&A session is coming up!"
[3:58] Patrick Klepek: "A kid asked about a new Mega Man. No updates yet."
[3:59] Patrick Klepek: "Lost Planet movie? The script is being worked on. Nothing more that we can say except for that."
[4:00] Patrick Klepek: "A sequel to Crimson Skies? It's a Microsoft property, so they don't have any control over it."
[4:00] Patrick Klepek: "Can Wesker appear in the Resident Evil series again?"
[4:00] Patrick Klepek: ""Even if you want Albert Wesker to come back, there's no chance he's coming back from that.""
[4:01] Patrick Klepek: "Viewtiful Joe 3?"
[4:02] Patrick Klepek: "Takeuchi: "Ummm. [laughs] Well, I'm a really big fan of that series, as well. I think the Viewtiful Joe games were great. I think that series was really the result of the work that Kamiya-san." No chance for Viewitful Joe right now -- but maybe in the future."
[4:04] Patrick Klepek: "Someone is asking Takeuchi about what's next for Resident Evil."
[4:04] Patrick Klepek: "And the idea of a Resident Evil game for the Wii."
[4:08] Patrick Klepek: "Right now, they're still working on what's next for the series. They don't have a specific direction yet."
[4:08] Patrick Klepek: "And that's it, guys! Next up, Halo. :)"
