When Johny Xtreme brought Johnny’s Xtreme Adventure to E3 2005, there was good buzz about developing and distributing this game to the public.  Well, it’s finally here, and we’ve got an Xclusive review.

Old School Xtreme

Johnny XtremeJohnny’s Xtreme Adventure is a side-scrolling shooter along the lines of the Contra or Metal Slug series.  You play as Johnny himself, taking out hordes of monsters on your quest to be extreme to the max.  Using Johnny’s extreme power, you advance through the game, taking the metaphorical bottle to the crotch of different enemies as you go.

Everything Johnny promised is here, from the extreme powers, to the nukes, to the constantly changing levels… fire, ice, and more. And yes, there is a rocket launcher that shoots chainsaws…that explode.

No Plot…No Story…Just Max

Johnny XtremeThe game has no plot to speak of.  Instead of a life bar, Johnny has an “Xtreme Meter” that fills up as you vanquish your foes.  When the bar is full you become “Xtreme to the Max” and can use your Xtreme Power to become an unstoppable juggernaut of destruction.  After a while, all of the extreme action becomes exhausting.  There is a little replay value due to the “Unlockaballz”, which unlock new characters and weapons.

All Bottle, No Crotch

Johnny XtremeIn the final analysis, Johnny’s Xtreme Adventure is the kind of game that might keep you entertained for an hour or two, before you get distracted by a mote of dust or some pleasant lights emanating from your refrigerator.  It doesn’t quite punch your balls off, but it does graze them uncomfortably.
