Windows Tip: Adjust Mouse Properties

By Greg Melton - Posted Mar 28, 2002
There is more to your little desktop friend than you might think. It has many options available for customizing most characteristics that define how it operates.

To adjust the button, pointer, and motion properties of your mouse, follow these steps.

  1. Open Windows, Settings, Control Panel, and double-click the mouse icon.
  2. On the Buttons tab, you can configure your mouse to be left-handed or right-handed and also increase or decrease your double-click speed.
  3. The Pointers tab is where you configure your pointer's properties by choosing the overall scheme and changing appearance aspects of the pointer during various operations.
  4. Changes for increasing and decreasing motion trail and pointer speed can be made on the Motion tab.
  5. If you change anything, remember to hit Apply.
