Nenene Sumiregawa
NeneneAfter her debut ten years ago, the weary Nenene just hasn’t been able to concentrate on writing in the four years since the disappearance of her friend, the Paper Master Yomiko Readman. Harsh and somewhat intimidating, she also has a habit of disappearing for days on end whenever she finds a lead on the whereabouts of her missing friend. Nenene has been living alone ever since her programmer father and her mother moved to America, so perhaps associating with the Paper Sisters may be just the thing to pull her out of her slump...unless they drive her crazy first!

MichelleMichelle Chan
At 24 years old, this blonde Paper Master is the eldest of the three Paper Sisters and an expert at paper archery. Michelle’s also a serious bibliophile, buying out entire bookstores on a whim, which causes no end of grief to the more level-headed Anita. However, even if she seems forgetful and carefree at times, Michelle is devoted to the well-being of her family and friends and is always ready to protect them from whatever new threat appears on the horizon.

Maggie Mui
MaggieThis tall and rather boyish Paper Master is the middle Paper Sister and has an affinity for using animal ‘puppets' made from paper. Seemingly quiet and reserved, Maggie is an even bigger bookaholic than her elder sister Michelle and goes into serious withdrawal when she doesn’t have anything to read. She also has the odd habit of curling up in confined spaces to read despite her large stature.

Anita King
AnitaThe youngest of the three Paper Sisters, this nimble Paper Master’s sharp wit is matched by her skills to use paper to cut through even the hardest steel. The voice of reason in the Sisters' household, Anita often ends up taking charge of practical matters: unlike her bibliophile sisters, Anita claims to hate books! Her dislike for books frequently manifests itself as contempt for authors, which often leads to bickering between her and Nenene.

LeeLee
A Hong Kong expatriate and Nenene's long-suffering editor at the publishing company. Having heard of the 'Paper Sisters Detective Agency' from his Hong Kong visits and contacts, he decided to hire the Paper Sisters as Nenene's bodyguards.

HisamiHisami Hishishi
The shy and reserved Hisami is Anita's classmate and her first friend at the new school. Hisami is a fan of Nenene Sumiregawa's work and is also a member of the school book club, which causes Anita some grief when she decides to join Hisami's club without asking what it is first!

Mr. CarpenterMr. Carpenter
A mysterious new adversary intent on obtaining the illicit book hidden in the school's library.

WendyWendy
The driver for the enigmatic Mr. Carpenter.

JuniorJunior
Mr. Carpenter's youngest henchman and the gunman sent to retrieve one of the illicit books from the school's library. After his initial attack fails, Junior disguises himself as a student to facilitate his search. Junior's withdrawn demeanor and inexperience with friendship hints at a lonely upbringing.

R.O.D. -THE TV-Yomiko Readman
A mild-mannered substitute teacher of British-Japanese descent, Yomiko is also a Paper Master secretly working for the British Library Task Force (codename: The Paper). A book lover of epic proportions, Yomiko's Jinbo-cho home is crammed full of countless volumes, and the mere rumor of her return creates excitement among the many booksellers in the area. Yomiko became a close friend of Nenene after rescuing her from a kidnapper; however, even Nenene hasn't heard from her kind-hearted friend since her disappearance three years ago.

NancyNancy
A timid girl that has been in hiding with Yomiko for the past five years, Nancy first met the Paper Master at the British Library. Yomiko has made it her mission to look after Nancy, whose mental state is somewhat delicate after past traumas such as the loss of her child.
